Some may be surprised that Susan's chosen career is accounting, given the fact that her two highest scores on the college aptitude test were mechanical reasoning and foreign language. However, the ten previous years she spent working with small businesses told her differently. It was also the 80s and the shift from green-bar paper to computers was happening. And Susan wanted to be at the forefront, leading that charge.
While working as a full-charge bookkeeper for a non-profit organization, Susan suddenly found herself unemployed as new federal economic policies had a trickle-down effect on the not-for-profit sector. Rather than viewing this as a setback, Susan turned this life-changing event into an opportunity. She went to college, graduating from the University of Alabama in 1985 with a BS in Accounting and a minor in Computer Science. Since then, Susan has worked in public accounting serving small businesses as an Accounting Software Integration Specialist and as an Accounting Manager for the City of Tuscaloosa.
When not getting lost in the details of one of her colorful spreadsheets, Susan can most likely be found exploring her 30-acre mini-sanctuary, encountering a vast number of wildlife species. She is also extremely talented in the arts and enjoys her membership in the American Gourd Society. She also volunteers at one of the largest art festivals in the South each year, the Kentucky Festival of the Arts. Susan's two dogs and psychotic cat keep her company and on schedule at the farm.
